Good morning guys, my name is Tony Maritotto
0:02
I'm a licensed physical therapist and today we're looking at a pulse oximeter
0:06
So I purchased these on Amazon. I love these little devices. I use them with all of my patients because not only does it tell me the oxygenation
0:15
it also gives me the heart rate. So I can judge how intense the workout is based on looking at target heart rate and
0:22
other metrics. So when we purchase the device, now each of them is going to come with a little bit different
0:27
accessories but this particular one comes with a carrying case the carrying case has a little strap
0:33
if we wanted to put it on a belt or something like that it comes with the actual device itself
0:38
and a string that we can use to hang off of a hook or put around the patient's neck
0:43
this particular one does not come with batteries so you have to bring your own now most of them
0:48
will run off of a standard triple a battery we use two of them so i'm going to go ahead and pop
0:55
the batteries in. This is a brand new unit that I purchased for the clinic. Once I
1:02
pop the batteries in I don know if you can see it the lights will come on There a button on the front When you press the button it start to it show you two lines and then it start to take a reading and so in just a
1:18
moment now you can see my oxygenation is 99 my heart rate's 86 probably because
1:24
I'm talking so fast but the idea behind this is the maximum oxygenation for most
1:33
machines this one goes up to 99 maximum is 100 because it's a hundred percent oxygenation and so
1:40
there are certain metrics if you're finding that your readings are lower than expected absolutely
1:46
talk to your doctor about it because there are numbers that they're going to want you to maintain
1:50
i know for myself when i'm stuffed up or i'm dealing with a sinus problem my oxygenation might
1:55
go down i'll take a couple deep breaths i'll do some diaphragmatic breathing i'll get that number
2:01
back up and I just feel a little more energized and it gives me a chance to kind of almost
2:07
meditate while I'm focused on improving my oxygenation. So these guys are great
2:12
They used to be hard to come by a couple years ago
2:16
Now they're everywhere. I highly recommend you get one if you're exercising on a regular basis
